About the team

The Technology department as a whole stretches across the UK, Romania and Singapore.  Our technology drives our business and so our DBA team is of extreme importance to the success of our company and our clients.  We are looking for a passionate, talented Database Administrator to join our team.

 

 

The role and your mission

As a DBA within Darwin we are instrumental in delivering a world class data platform supporting our Darwin and Analytics platforms.  SQL Server and MongoDB are core components of our technology stack and critical to the uptime and performance of our applications.  The team currently supports SQL Server 2008 to 2019 and MongoDB 4.x to 5.x. Your mission will be:

  • Design, develop and maintain database infrastructure to support the live and internal environments
  • Collaboration with DevOps and SRE (Site Reliability Engineers) to ensure optimal uptime, performance, scalability and deployments
  • Create, monitor and troubleshoot backup and maintenance routines
  • Investigate performance issues alongside Product Support through to resolution
  • Work closely with Development / Architecture to ensure the database design is optimal for the workload
  • Provide mentoring to other members of the technology team

 

What skills & values you will bring:

  • Solid commercial experience using SQL Server and MongoDB in a highly transactional platform. Experience within a SaaS environment is a plus.
  • Performance tuning using query plans, query store, explain plans
  • Detailed knowledge if indexing strategies
  • Scripting knowledge including T-SQL, PowerShell, JavaScript, Linux
  • Understanding of Data Warehouse design. SSIS is a bonus.
  • Understanding of HA technologies, including clustering, AG, replication and log shipping.
  • Understanding of Windows and Linux Operating Systems
  • Experience of C# and .Net technologies
  • Ability to identify processes that can be automated and willingness to investigate/solve the challenge
  • A commitment to quality and a thorough approach to the work
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Flexible attitude, ability to perform under pressure.
